The Wine

95 Pts Ryan Montgomery, jamessuckling.com 'A restrained wine with aromas of grilled lemons, flint, grapefruit, crushed stones and gun smoke. The palate is precise and pure, with a mid-weighted mouthfeel and fine acidity. There’s nice balance of fruit density and minerals, finishing with a saline edge and high tension. Delicious. Drink or hold. Screw cap.'

93 Pts Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion 'A highly perfumed, snappy, sappy, bright and red-fruited pinot noir of satiny texture and general sense of freshness and a kind of glassy transparency. Bright, sweet-leaning red of cherry juice with pomegranate crunch shot through, some light kirsch notes, raspberry licorice and dashes of red capsicum, hazelnut and mushroom tea. Very fruit forward, tightened with tangy, orangey acidity, a faint sheath of tannin nicely there. A wine that suggests vigorous youth is its best friend, over general cellaring. Good.'

About the Wine Maker

Ashton Hills is a three-hectare vineyard that lies in the Piccadilly Valley sub-region of the Adelaide Hills, on a ridge just below the summit of Mount Lofty. The estate was founded by Stephen George in 1982, and since that time it has built a reputation as one of Australia’s finest proponents of Pinot Noir and cool climate whites.
