The Wine

Bernard’s latest cuvée, his second vintage, comes from a small half-hectare of south-facing vines over 70 years old, rooted in sandy granitic soil. Its name, Alizarine, is inspired by a red-flowering plant. The wine is crafted in cement tanks using 100% whole bunches and indigenous yeasts. It boasts deep, perfumed aromas with hints of violet, generous depth, soft, rich tannins, and exotic spices, all balanced by fresh acidity. With bright fruit and a full, silky palate, it’s beautifully drinkable now but has the structure to age gracefully over the medium term - and under screwcap!

About the Wine Maker

The Metrat family home and winery are to be found in the midst of the very highly regarded sector of Fleurie called “La Roilette”. La Roilette lies towards the bottom of the slope close to the border of Moulin a Vent and here the soil has a base of clay underneath the decomposed pink granite that is so typical of this area. This makes for wines that have a little more depth and structure than most other Fleuries.
