Mount Pleasant Cellar Aged Elizabeth Semillon 2021
The Wine
First created by Maurice O’Shea in 1956 to honour the inaugural visit of a reigning monarch to Australia, Elizabeth was cellared until its release in 1968. Launched during a pivotal era for Australian wine, it became one of the country’s most recognised whites, shaping national appreciation for dry, unoaked Semillon matured in bottle. Through decades of changing tastes, Elizabeth has remained timeless, defined by its longevity, and unmistakably Hunter Valley. Using fruit from our vineyards and aged for five years before release, this wine shows bright citrus layered with notes of honey and toast, capturing the character of aged Hunter Valley Semillon. A beautiful texture and intense flavour are the hallmarks of what this variety does best: age gracefully over an extraordinary amount of time.
Sourced exclusively from the Lovedale vineyard, Elizabeth has been quintessential Hunter Valley Semillon since the early days. Aged for 5 years before release the wine is released in its optimal drinking window. This wine is majestic, elegant, and poised; with potential to age for years to come. Aromas of citrus, hay, and vanilla interweave, creating a complex bouquet. The taste is of lemon and limes, with a light, bright texture and clean acidity. On the palate, the finish is fresh, dry, and smooth.
