The Wine

The 2023 has a deep purple-red color with violet highlights. The aroma opens with notes of red berries and a hint of white pepper spice. On the palate, it reveals a vibrant, medium-textured body with flavors of dark cherry, plum, and blackberry. Aged in stainless steel tanks, each bottle features a small piece of grapevine tied around its neck, known as a “tralcetto” or necktie. Nice!

About the Wine Maker

Azienda Agricola Zaccagnini is a family-run winery founded by Mario Zaccagnini in 1969. What began with just a few hectares of Verdicchio for family use—while Mario’s main work was in electrical systems—soon grew thanks to the outstanding wines from the Salmagina vineyard and the area’s perfect conditions for grape growing. Set in a stunning landscape reminiscent of Tuscany, the winery is surrounded by rolling hills, mountains, olive groves, and vineyards, with a nearby saltwater spring once used by locals to harvest salt. Their wines are celebrated for rich aromas, lively flavors, and unique textures, crafted with a strong commitment to organic, sustainable practices, avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Sulfite levels are kept well below legal limits, and the winery earned organic certification with the 2020 harvest. They grow a variety of grapes, including Verdicchio, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Pecorino, Passerina, and Montepulciano, producing red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines, as well as wild plum and cherry dessert wines and premium extra virgin olive oil.
