The Wine

High-altitude plot in Meursault. From organically grown grapes.

94 Points James Suckling "Intensely nutty aroma from the get go, but with aeration candied-lemon notes develop. Just a hint of vanilla from oak. The serious structure gives it a compact core, with plenty of citrusy fruit wrapped around this. Very impressive length and stony drive at the finish for a village wine. So vibrant you have to go back for more.  Drink or hold.".

90-92 Points Jasper Morris MW Inside Burgundy
"Mid lemon colour, a little bit of reduction, attractive volume here from this plateau site, the fruit offering some depth of flavour with lively tension. Ripe apple with a citrus tint, long and pleasing. Very good. ****"

91+ Thomas Parker MW "Pale lemon in colour, this reveals a harmonious blend of sappy, smoky wood and fine ripe lemon and white pear on the nose. The palate is bright and vivid, with cleansing acidity cutting through notes of toasted cereals, buttery poached pears and lemon curd. The wood smoke offers savoury spice, matching the leesy, textural richness of the palate. A fine example of Meursault that offers typicity and approachability".

88-90 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound "Ripe aromas of hazelnut, pear and apple compote are trimmed in soft nuances of citrus and oak. There is excellent volume to the rich but vibrant medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the slightly more complex and youthfully austere finale that is noticeably firmer. This will need at least a couple of years. Date: Jun 2022; Drink: 2026+"

About the Wine Maker

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or. 1
