Bouchard Beaune 1er Cru Du Chateau Rouge 2021
The Wine
Bouchard Père & Fils has been producing the Beaune du Château cuvée, an exclusivity of the House, since 1907. This wine, which is a blend of 17 Premier Cru vineyards vinified separately, demonstrates the different facets of the terroir of Beaune. A dark garnet colour with brown to mauve shades. Complex bouquet associating perfumes of jammy red fruit, fig, peony with a hint of chocolate. Harmonious and deep palate, with a beautiful maturity and dense but fine tannins.
89-91pts Allen Meadows, Burghound (the first vintage for this wine was in 1907 and the heart of it is composed by Les Aigrots though there are as many as 16 other 1ers included). Subtle but not invisible wood sets off ripe and fresh aromas of various dark berries, spice and a whiff of earth. Here too there is fine volume and richness to the generous and seductive, even velvet-textured, flavors that offer very good length if only average depth, though that of course should improve with a few years of keeping. 2027+
