The Wine

94 Pts Andy Howard, Decanter 'Bouchard started acquiring land in Teurons in 1791, completing the process in 1869. Not the heaviest or showiest of the wines tasted, this is precise and restrained. Still needs a little longer to reach its peak. Oak a little more evident. Attractive wild strawberry and blackberry fruit. Plenty of concentration with a freshness and vibrancy. A very fine example of the merits of 2005'

91 Pts 'Outstanding' Allen Meadows, Burghound 'A completely different nose is present as the concentrated fruit aromas are quite ripe but somber and reserved with a deft touch of wood lurking in the background, leading to rich, full and borderline robust flavors that are obviously structured yet the very firm tannins are buried beneath an impressive amount of mid-palate sève. A serious Beaune built to last at least two decades.

About the Wine Maker

Today the Burgundian wine Domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.
