About the Wine Maker
Claus Preisinger’s winery sits in the village of Gols, near Lake Neusiedlersee in Burgenland. He first began making wine with his father as a hobby, but after working for a few years with neighbor and winemaker Hans Nittnaus, he realized wine was his true calling. In 2004, he became one of the founding members of the Pannobile group, dedicated to honoring the land and terroir while preserving Burgenland’s traditions. His first vintage was in 2000, and since then he’s grown the family’s three hectares to 17, meticulously tending each vine. He uses methods like homeopathic teas, compost from cattle and horses, and follows Steiner philosophies. His 58 vineyard parcels are mostly planted with indigenous grapes such as Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and St. Laurent.
Though his striking cantilevered concrete winery feels modern, everything inside is natural and hands-off, with indigenous yeasts guiding the fermentation each year. Claus aims to craft wines that are pure, balanced, and true to their terroir, relying on instinct over rigid formulas. Constantly experimenting and evolving, his style stands apart from the classic interpretations of the region.
