The Wine

Approx. blend: 52.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 2.5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc

Duluc serves as the second wine of Chateau Branaire-Ducru, a 4th Cru Classe established in 1855, and was introduced in the 1990s. The 2019 Duluc reveals its complexity of black and red fruits promptly upon aeration, complemented by spicy undertones and a subtle minty accent. The palate is pleasantly rounded, yielding a fleshy and supple texture that unfolds into precise and pure fruit aromas.

92 Pts Georgina Hindle, Decanter 'Mocha, cocoa powder, blackcurrants and black plums on the nose with some sage and thyme. Juicy and plump, this has a nice lifeforce to it with balanced acidity and a sleek texture, just stopping short of being chewy with a vibrant feel overall. There is energy here and it's matched with high acidity and a round structure. Really persistent with lashings of liquorice, aniseed and clove underneath the bright black fruits. Nice charm, confident and playful yet with real punch and bite. Focussed and extremely well made, so approachable, easy to drink and like'

16.5/20 Pts Jancis Robinson 'Pale garnet. Light but nicely composed nose. Sweet start and a rather attractive minerally finish. Refreshing. Approachable and with some real interest. Drink 2022-2030'

About the Wine Maker

Chateau Branaire-Ducru's (4th Cru Classe) owner/manager, François-Xavier Maroteaux has picked up the baton and continues his father’s legacy (RIP 2017). The Maroteaux family bought the property in 1988 and have invested considerably in the vineyard and winery since. Superstar consultant Eric Boissenot advises here, as he does with many of the Left Bank’s top estates, including the Medoc’s four first growths.
