Fantini 23 Edizione 2021
The Wine
Fantini Edizione Cinque Autoctoni 23 is a bold, richly flavored red that brings together five native Italian grapes from the southern regions of Abruzzo and Puglia, delivering pure drama in every glass. Crafted by the Fantini Group, one of Italy’s most innovative producers, it was made to break the rules — which is why you won’t see a DOC or DOCG on the label. The blend features Montepulciano, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera, sourced from old, low-yield vines on hillside vineyards with rocky limestone and clay soils. The result is concentrated flavor and depth, polished through modern winemaking techniques. In the glass, it’s deep purple with aromas of black cherry, plum, cocoa, licorice, sweet tobacco, and spice. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with soft tannins, generous fruit, and a long finish layered with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and dried herbs, thanks in part to aging in French and American oak. Best paired with bold dishes like bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-roasted pork shoulder, or mushroom and truffle lasagne, it’s delicious now but will age beautifully for up to a decade.
