The Wine

In 2021 is the introduction of the Ronchi Cru to the blend. Three Cru’s go into the The 'Recta Pete' is composed of grapes from the younger sections of David's vineyards in Faset, Roncaglie, and now Ronchi. The 2021 blend consists of 40% Roncaglie, 30% Faset, and 30% Ronchi. 'Recta Pete', meaning ‘shoot straight’, pays homage to David’s Scottish ancestry of arrow makers and his initial vision for producing Barbaresco.

The grapes are 100% destemmed, followed by an open fermentation without a post-fermentation soak. The aging process occurs in old oak barrels, over 10 years old, with a capacity of 300 liters. Barbaresco is released on the 3rd of January following the harvest, allowing for approximately 27 months of aging. David opts for 24 months of barrel aging, surpassing the legal minimum of 12 months, followed by 3 months in the bottle.

The palate is exquisitely delicate, featuring notes of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry intertwined with graphite and woodsmoke, culminating in a firm tannic finish. It is advisable to decant the wine for a few hours before serving, or even better, to cellar it for a few more years to enhance its qualities—your patience will indeed be rewarded.
