Foreign Friends 'Louise' Chardonnay 2023
The Wine
Grown in the the Malsem vineyard, a small vineyard on the Woolshed falls side of Beechworth town, grown on granite soil and at about 350m of elevation. The grapes were then basket-pressed, fermented and aged in small old oak barriques (4 years old barrels). No malolactic fermentation. It has very subtle stone fruit notes on the nose with a hint of toasted nuttiness coming from the lees, the palate offers quite a lot of textures with a beautiful finish.
94 Pts Jeni Port, James Halliday Wine Companion ‘Brings both power and presence to the glass, not to mention a whole lot of Beechworth chardonnay charm. A chorus of summer stone fruits, citrus, quince, baking spices and vanilla pod greets the drinker. Distinctly savoury - love the preserved lemon notes - and textural, yet it is well structured, too, in vibrant acidity. A most compelling newcomer.’

About the Wine Maker
Born over a love of wine, travel and friendship, Foreign Friends is a collaboration between sisters Leila and Crystal and close French friend Juliette - who meet a decade ago doing Vintage in Beechworth.
Fast forward, their collab has resulted in their inaugural release of some of smashing Beechworth and King Valley vinous expressions. These are super impressive vins and we’ve selected their white bottlings to bring in store. The team popped in recently based on what we tasted, the wines are top notch!
