The Wine

This wine, made from 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier, is hand-harvested and meticulously sorted before undergoing a three-week temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. It is then aged for 36 months in oak barrels, with half of them being new oak. Uniquely, all the barrels are crafted on-site by Guigal's cooper, which is quite rare in the wine industry.

Dark ruby red in color, the wine offers aromas of spices, red berries, and subtle oak. It opens with smooth, round tannins, followed by flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and vanilla. The overall profile is well-balanced, with barely noticeable acidity and tannins that provide aging potential, softened by extended oak aging. Delectable!

95 Pts Vinous 'Inky ruby. Vibrant, spice-accented cherry and boysenberry scents are complicated by hints of black pepper, candied flowers and licorice. Supple and broad in the mouth, offering juicy red and blue fruit preserves, spicecake, olive paste and violet pastille flavors that tighten up steadily with air. The floral note repeats strongly on the clinging finish, which shows excellent clarity and velvety, slowly building tannins...'

Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, it’s a classic Côte Rôtie with its silky tannins and round, layered, elegant style. Giving up plenty of blackberry and black raspberry fruit as well as hints of espresso, violets, and spicy wood, it should hit the ground running and drink spectacularly well for 10-15 years.'

    About the Wine Maker

    One of the powerhouses of the Rhône and a name synonymous with beautifully crafted wines from some of the regions finest vineyard sites. Etienne Guigal formed his own estate in 1946, and was joined by his son Marcel in 1961. They purchased the Château d'Ampuis in 1995, today fully restored, it is the headquarters of the estate and home to the Guigal cooperage. Marcel's son, Phillipe is the winemaker and Guigal produce a range of stunning wines from across the terroirs of the Rhône. The jewels in the crown of the estate's production are the three stellar lieux-dit Côte Rôtie's - La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque.
