This standout Australian white wine is a bold venture that’s set a new standard for the variety beyond its native Santorini. Inspired by a trip there in 2006, the Barry family planted Australia’s first commercial Assyrtiko vines in 2012 after years of collaboration with Greek growers. The grape has thrived in Clare’s sunny, elevated valleys, rooted in ancient terra rossa, gravel, and clay loam over limestone. The result is a wine with striking acidity, a mineral edge, and remarkable tension. Thanks to warm days and cool nights, the grapes ripen slowly, developing citrus intensity while preserving the vibrant energy that defines true Assyrtiko.

It's a brilliant, textural white wine here, flamboyant with jasmine florals, lime, sea spray, faint cashew nut savouriness, pink grapefruit, a thread of aniseed and dashes of salt bush. Gently chalky texture, good extension of flavour, refreshing, too. Very good. Drink by 2029.'

The color is water white in the glass, and despite being a pure, sleek thing, it has lovely chalky phenolic texture that shapes the finish. I really like this wine—almost everyone does—and I think that it looks particularly good in this 2025 vintage. This is excellent. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink 2026-2035.'
