La Ficelle de St Pourcain Rouge 2023
The Wine
This wine is a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir and a classic ‘Vin de Soif’ (thirst quencher), casual but satisfying! Think village Beaujolais with a touch more structure. Young, fresh wine with lovely ruby red colour. Fruity on the nose, showing blackcurrant and cherry, with spicy, peppery overtones. The 2023 is the best Vintage for this bottling that I've encountered!! TC
On the 2021 "A soft wine with typical spicy Gamay aromas. This is an uncomplicated, light-bodied wine that should be served lightly chilled. Les Vignerons de Saint-Pourçain was set up in 1952 and with its 100 members is responsible for a substantial majority of the production of the Saint-Pourçain appellation. La Ficelle, a blend of 70% Gamay and 30% Pinot Noir, is very much a fun wine – one to share with friends. The first vintage was in 1987 and the wine is always launched on the first Saturday of December. Each year the bottle has a different design." - Jim Budd (Decanter.com)
