The Wine

In the heart of Spain, organic and sustainable winemaking flourishes across 1,000 hectares of breathtaking high-altitude vineyards in central Castile, set 700 to 900 meters above sea level. Warm, sunny days fill the grapes with rich, fruity aromas, while cool nights lock in their freshness and character, capturing the true spirit of Mesta wines. Dry summers naturally yield healthy grapes without the use of chemicals.

This vibrant, juicy, and easy-drinking Spanish red, made from organically grown Tempranillo, bursts with ripe red berry flavors, savory herbs, and a touch of gentle spice. Smooth in texture with lively acidity and a clean, dry finish, it showcases the pure, unadorned character of Tempranillo without any oak aging.

About the Wine Maker

Fontana Bodegas & Viñedos, owned by the Cantarero Morales family for over 30 years, is a leading producer of estate wines in Uclés, a region within Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Situated north of La Mancha, south of Mondéjar, and east of Vinos de Madrid, Uclés is one of the higher-altitude designations in central Spain. In 2002, local producers formed a committee to promote the area, securing ‘Destination of Origin’ status in 2005, with Bodegas Fontana playing a key role in the achievement.

Now under the leadership of Jesús Cantarero, a diverse, highly skilled, multinational team of wine professionals, including Sam Harrop MW, crafts authentic, contemporary wines known for their purity and freshness. Their range spans from expressive, organically grown varietals to terroir-driven, single-vineyard selections with impressive depth and complexity.

The vineyards lie in the historic land of the Mesta, a medieval association of shepherds who once controlled sheep herding routes across Castile. Even today, migrating flocks pass through, honoring ancient traditions and highlighting a deep connection to nature. Through organic farming and respectful winemaking, the wines reflect the distinct personality of the land and its grape varieties.

Grown in their own organically farmed Uclés vineyards, surrounded by centuries-old oak trees and managed as a thriving ecosystem, the grapes benefit from sunny days, cool nights, and a continental climate that preserves freshness and varietal character. Harvested at night or early morning, they are swiftly taken to the modern winery for destemming, gentle crushing, and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, followed by an eight-day maceration.
