Platinetti, Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2022
The Wine
100% declassified Ghemme nebbiolo fruit from the 45 to 55 year old vines on the glacial soils of Ronco al Maso cru in Ghemme (Alto Piemonte).
A super release from Andrea - cherry & all the ferrous & balsamic notes of other releases. Lacy fine tannins with an amaro like finish of alpine herbs. Delicious now but very ageworthy.
95 Pts Lisa Cardelli, The Wine Pilot 'Cranberries, macerated roses, and morello cherries—this is an ethereal and sanguine wine at the same time. Orange rind, powdery, coating tannins, a palate that is compact and precise, a hint of alcohol at the back, but overall, it is well balanced. This nebbiolo is elevated in a mix of stainless steel and Slavonian oak. There is a finesse and length that persist and keeps on giving. It is made from declassified Ghemme fruit from old vines. Platinetti Guido indeed makes excellent wines at every level.'
94 Pts Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 'Cherry, new leather, mint and aniseed, dried orange, dried flowers and spice. It’s medium-bodied, a cool feeling wine, but has a certain apricity with those warming spices and bright raspberry/cherry flavours. Tannin has grip and feels dusty and quite chalky, and the finish is long with a cinch of amaro bitterness to close. Classic Ghemme, with perhaps a little more substance than is usual.'

About the Wine Maker
Winemaker Andrea Fontana has been making wine for over 25 years and continues to carry on the family tradition that began with his grandfather at the start of the 20th century. The majority of his vines lie in Ronco Maso, one of the most iconic and challenging sites in the region containing vines approaching 100 years in age. This southwestern facing vineyard was originally formed by the flow of the Monte Rosa glacier and the River Sesia. The high levels of minerals and organic matter found in the soil here force the vine roots to travel down to the deepest layers of the soil in search of nutrients and minerals, giving wines their signature complexity, minerality, and character. In total, Andrea owns and farms just 5 hectares of vineyards, with Nebbiolo covering 80% of the production and the remainder a mix of Vespolina and Barbera. We were blown away by the wines here and loved Andrea. Beginning a partnership with Andrea was one of the easiest decisions we have made thus far.
