Tempo d'Angelus 2022
The Wine
The 2022 Tempo d'Angélus from Château Angélus showcases the exceptional quality of that vintage. The 2022 is 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.
Tempo, a newer addition to the d'Angélus range, is crafted from grapes harvested from vineyards acquired by Château Angelus in 2017. These vineyards are situated on splendid clay-limestone slopes in Castillon-la-Bataille, Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, and Sainte-Colombe, mere kilometers from Saint-Émilion, and are transitioning to organic farming. The dedication invested in the Grand Vin of Château d'Angélus is equally applied to Tempo, which is touted as "Bordeaux, crafted like a Grand Cru."
As a Bordeaux appellation wine, Tempo presents a more accessible version of its prestigious predecessors, yet it embodies the same richness and intricacy as the Grand Vin and Second Wine, without the necessity of a 15 to 20-year maturation period.
93 Pts Georgie Hindle, Decanter 'An affordable, easy-drinking Bordeaux red that still showcases the skill of Angélus. Aromas of cherries, salty stones and purple flowers lead into a palate that is seductive yet fresh, with a touch of chewiness and flesh for texture. A minty undercurrent lifts the finish, keeping it in harmony. Pure, vibrant and effortlessly enjoyable – a brilliant buy that proves Bordeaux can balance ripeness with vibrancy, even in a hot year.'
92 Pts James Suckling 'This is fresh and crunchy, with a salty, dark-berry and chocolate character. It's medium-bodied with delicious fruit. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc from Cotes de Castillon terroir. It's so attractive now. Why wait?'
90 Pts Jeb Dunnuck 'The 2022 Château Angelus Tempo is juicy and lively, with a beautiful, crunchy style in its black cherries, spring flowers, and sappy, leafy tobacco-like nuances. It's beautifully balanced and has integrated acidity and fine tannins. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged 18 months in barrel.'
