The Wine

Insoglio del Cinghiale is the signature wine of Tenuta di Biserno, an estate in Upper Maremma founded and nurtured by the Antinori family, one of Italy’s most renowned winemaking dynasties. The name reflects its roots: “Insoglio” refers to a spot in the Maremma scrubland where wild boar (cinghiale) gather to root and roll, symbolizing the spirit and culture of this stunning coastal region. This wine is a vibrant, well-structured blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, all hand-harvested, meticulously sorted, destemmed, and gently crushed, then aged for seven months in both steel and wood to maintain freshness and enhance complexity.

The 2023 vintage can be described as unique, especially when compared to the previous one. Winter and spring were mostly mild, but May and the first part of June were characterized by a high frequency of rainfall. This allowed the soil to become enriched with water reserves that were useful in facing the hot and dry temperatures of the summer period, which could be overcome without combined with the privileged position of the vineyards, led to optimal ripening of the grapes and confirmed an absolutely remarkable vintage.Grapes are hand harvested, carefully sorted, destemmed and soft crushed.

92 Pts Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator 'Shows good varietal character, with saturated blackberry, violet, ink and smoked bacon aromas and flavors. Well-structured yet harmonious and really sings on the lingering aftertaste.'

92 Pts jebdunnock.com '...youthful magenta/red color. On the nose, it’s fruity and floral, with aromas of currants, mixed berries, fresh flowers, and fresh earth. Full-bodied, it offers plush tannins, balanced richness without feeling heavy, and even acidity. It’s a cut above for the entry to the range and should drink well over the coming 8-10 years.'
