The Wine

This organic red from Lirac in France’s southern Rhône Valley is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. It has a deep, inky color and bursts with aromas of ripe red and black fruits like kirsch and wild blackberry. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with flavors of blackcurrant liqueur and spice, while smooth, elegant tannins highlight its rich, fleshy style. Hints of liquorice and vanilla add depth and a lingering finish.

92 Pts Anna-Christina Cabrales, Wine Enthusiast 'This wine is intensely juicy with overripe blackberries and cassis with soft accents of fresh thyme, rosemary and black peppercorn. Full-bodied and balanced, its vibrant acidity tempers youthful tannins and gives way to a ripe, red-fruited mid-palate. A savory layer follows, loaded with crushed blackberry, briny black olives, granite and flaky salt. Aerate well before enjoying.'

    About the Wine Maker

The Jaume family have been wine growers since 1826. Domaine Veneur, in northern Châteauneuf-du-Pape, was created by Alain Jaume in 1978 and is today run by next generation: Christophe, Sébastien and Hélène Jaume. From small beginnings, the family now farms 145 hectares, which include Domaine Grand Veneur and Domaine du Clos Sixte in Lirac, both 100% Certified Organic EcoCert. The Les Champauvins Côtes du Rhone Rouge offers exceptional value. Sharing the round pebbly soils (galets) of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with which it borders, the Les Champauvins vineyard was unlucky to remain just outside the appellation.
