The Wine

Nerello Mascalese is widely considered Sicily’s finest red grape, producing many of the island’s top wines, especially from Etna. This bottle is a great introduction to the variety—a vibrant, youthful red bursting with cherry fruit (as the label suggests) in a juicier, less structured style than most Sicilian reds. La Bacca hails from western Sicily and was vinified in stainless steel to preserve its freshness. Bright cherry and raspberry notes make it instantly appealing upon opening, in contrast to the more structured Etna versions. Soft tannins and a fresh finish give it versatility—perfect slightly chilled or paired with antipasto and pizza.
