The Wine

A quintessential expression of Vermentino from Sardinia. Sourced from the hand-picked bunches of ancient vineyards.  It’s intoxicating, rich, and refined—truly the epitome of this exotic Island!

Vineyards located in Maristella, in the bay of Porto Conte. The area is close to the sea, which characterizes the terroir thanks to its exposure to wind and sun. Red earths very rich in iron and clay.

Manual harvest of the grapes, after soft cold pressing we proceed to fermentation in steel at low temperature. In order to enhance the aromas of the Vermentino itself, the refinement is always carried out in steel, leaving the wine in contact with the noble lees for three months, through batonnage sur lie. This will be followed by maturation in the bottle lasting 1 month.

The 'Papiri' displays hints of melon, banana and bitter almond. - its full, soft, intense and persistent, fruity with a bitter aftertaste typical of Vermentino.

About the Wine Maker

Cantina Santa Maria La Palma’s story goes back to a time when life was guided by the rhythms of nature, and the farm workers in Alghero relied solely on their land and resourcefulness.

It started in 1946 in the Nurra area, which had been reclaimed and distributed to farmers after Sardinia’s Agrarian Reform in the post-war era. The locals, with their skilled and determined hands, harnessed the potential of this land, ideal for winemaking. By 1959, a hundred of them joined forces to create the Cantina Santa Maria la Palma (Santa Maria la Palma Winery).

Today, the winery blends tradition and innovation, using modern technology to enhance its projects while staying rooted in its love for the local soil. With 700 hectares of vineyards, it produces a variety of exquisite Sardinian wines, crafted with the same passion and care as always, now elevated by cutting-edge advancements.
