he Wine

A blend of five 1ers that include Tuvilains, Aigrots, Sur les Grèves Les Cras and Sizies.

93/100 James Suckling "An elegant, medium-bodied white Burgundy with considerable flinty and chalky depth. Although it starts a little tight (it must have been bottled recently), this is quite round and rich on the back palate, with nice, lemony freshness at the finale. With a little aeration some nice stone fruit emerges. A cuvee of 5 different Premier Crus, From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2023."

92/100 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter "This Beaune premier cru is blended across five different lieux-dits totaling 10ha, including Les Aigrots, Les Tuvilains, Les Teurons, Sur les Grèves, and Les Sizies. Fermented and aged with 15% new casks, which marks the wine a bit at this point. The fruit character is more ripe apple and butter than citrus; all the same, the wine has good freshness to bring it into balance on the palate. The wood should fade with time, making this a wine for mid-term cellaring at least." Drink 2023 – 2040."

90-92/100 Neal Martin, Vinous "The 2020 Beaune du Château Blanc 1er Cru has a light and fresh apple blossom and orange pith scented bouquet, just a hint of camomile in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a zesty opening, fine acidity, quite lively with a touch of stem ginger towards the finish. This is worth seeking out. Drink 2023 – 2037."

Delicious, textural white Burg that would benefit from a little and not too much chill. Rock solid for the money! TC

About the Wine Maker

Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or. 1
