Izway Wines 'Harold' Shiraz 2022
The Wine
An intriguing Northern Eden Valley Shiraz that will only get better with age.
From the undulating hills of the Northern Eden Valley this single-hectare Shiraz vineyard is the third release from “Harold’s” new home in the sub region of Moculta. Like an old fisherman who can’t let go of a past favourite watering hole, we’ve been comfortable setting up the deck chairs at this new site just upstream from the original vineyard.
The tiny bunches harvested in 2022 delivered an exceptional depth of flavour and colour. The resulting wine is certainly bolder than previous releases and pours inky black in a display of power.
The nose is almost northern Barossa, with coffee and chocolate notes waltzing with blackberry and blueberry. The palate is rich and textural, with cooler elements of spice and licks of cornichon adding elegance and restraint.
Cellaring: 10-20 years (from vintage).

About the Wine Maker
At IZWAY wines, our task is to gently guide our wines to bottle so they are an accurate reflection of both the site on which they were grown and the prevailing conditions throughout the growing season.
Our job is made easier through access to the amazing old-vines and abundant sunshine that makes the Barossa Valley so famous across the globe. Wines of purity, energy and vitality that speak clearly of the region we call home.
Our wine making is simple and minimalistic, based on old-world, hands-on techniques. We limit our acid additions as much as possible, rarely use nutrient, never use tannin or any other additions and we never fine or filter our wines.
We use all old oak (apart from 2 barrels a year) and age some of our wine in large oak Fudre (2.4kL). We also use some whole bunch winemaking with Grenache and Mataro and only destem (we don't crush) our Shiraz. Izway Wines
IZWAY Wines originated from a handshake between two Australian winemakers in a Beaujolais chateau. Brian Conway and Craig Isbel, who met at Chateau de Bluizard in 2002, decided over several nights of enjoying pastis to establish their own winery in the Barossa Valley. Craig promptly sourced half a tonne of Ebenezer Shiraz from a friend, leading to the creation of the inaugural ‘Bruce’ in 2003, produced in a single barrique. Since then, IZWAY Wines has grown slowly and organically. Introducing Brian Conway, the owner and winemaker at IZWAY Wines. Having started buying and savoring second growth Bordeaux at 18, Brian's passion for wine is evident. The wines that Brian and Craig create are exceptional, competing with the most renowned wineries in South Australia.
